Located in Phoenix, Arizona State University has had a long and complicated history with the surrounding indigenous communities. In 2017 ASU Gammage, the university’s performing arts center, reached out to Cornerstone Theater for help. Over the course of the next two years Cornerstone, in collaboration with playwright Larissa FastHorse, worked in the community to build relationships and gather stories. The result was Native Nation, an immersive theatrical production that tells the story of this land though the eyes of its original people.

Created through Cornerstone’s signature community-engaged theater practice, and performed by a cast of local Indigenous community members alongside Cornerstone ensemble members, Native Nation is more than a play – it is an experience that combines an indigenous marketplace, community gathering and cultural performance that will change the way you see this land.
